Hundreds of custom build homes possible in East London

9 August 2013

Two locations in East London have been earmarked by the Greater London Authority (GLA) as potential sites for people to work with a custom build developer to build their own home.

Great to see more sites coming online, especially in and around London.

Custom Build at Barking Riverside would be fantastic...

It would be great to have a staking out day with an open invite to anyone with a potential interest.

It would be great to have some bargain plots fast tracked for a group who would add value to the whole site. Perhaps this would be through mixing an additional activity be it shop. working hub, nursery, or social enterprise relevant to living on the site.
It would be great if there could be a collection of supply chain let custom build homes to demonstrate what is possible at different price points...perhap s at different levels of finish.

Wonder how the site will be "incubated"?

How would young families - and first-time buyers - get involved in this? It seems that if this initiative could be supported by a Help-To-Buy-sty le package (i.e. Help-To-Build?) then it could be a really great opportunity to offer a route to home ownership for young people trying to make a go of it in the capital - and if collective forms of house-building are enabled, to benefit from seeding communities in the process.

Bring it on....these sites are ideal for custom/self build and an innovative project here could help to kick start other housing projects in the vicinity
